April 2009: Bulletin Board
We have one! Just ask Sarah or Erin for the link. Eventually the link will be here, but we want to beef up the anti-spam barricades before we put the link here where every Tom, Dick, and botnet can find it.
December 2008: PLG Winter Conference
Location: beautiful Lincoln, NE

Tentative end: noon Friday, December 26th
Dates were selected based on work and travel schedules for session presenters Sarah, Gennette, and Erin. If you wish to attend but these dates don't quite work for you, say so, because we may be able to shift the schedule to accommodate more participants.
The event will once again be held in the Erin's Apartment Conference Center, which now offers free wireless internet. A limited amount of lodging is available in the adjoining Erin's Apartment Hotel; mention PLG when making your reservation and you'll get the group rate of $0 per night.

September 2008: Issues
We, or at least the server we're on, got haxord. But we're back.
How did it happen? Well, you know how every year Sarah says, guys, the bulletin board is old, we need a new one? One theory is that YapBB was old enough to have security holes you could drive a Russian truck through.
So we're back, minus the BB, which inconveniently was pretty much the only thing still active around here. Hopefully we can find a newer BB system soon and reopen our lines of communication. If you have suggestions, talk to Erin or Sarah.
Earlier in 2008
Don't worry, all the old stuff is still here! I intend to keep the PLG site online in one form or another until I'm old and grey or somebody hires a lawyer.
But some CYA changes became necessary.
- Page integration. I'd built the site using frames, so search engines only picked up the body of a page, not the heading or navigation. Anyone who googled their way into this site would've been stuck on a single page with no context or explanation. (Not that explanation necessarily helps our case.) Also, frames went out of fashion years ago, so it's been hard to claim to be a with-it web developer at work knowing that my "home" pages were using cutting-edge 1996 technology.
- Disclaimers. With all this talk of the MySpace generation announcing all their questionable behavior online and then getting in trouble when authority figures browse those pages, I figured we could use a little note at the top of every page, a little announcement to the uninitiated that this was all long ago on a campus far, far away (well, for most of us by now). Wouldn't want to scare off anybody's potential employers, advisors, dates, etc.
